Asia Multimedia Publishing Media Awards 2009

Manila, July 18, 2009 – MiD DAY, India’s leading afternooner is the only newspaper from India that bagged 4 awards at the Asian Multimedia Publishing Awards 2009, continuing its spate of accruing international honours and recognition for its innovative marketing practice. MiD DAY also won the prestigious IFRA and INMA awards earlier this year.

This competition attracted 74 entries representing 44 companies from across Asia and is Asia’s premier publishing awards program that recognizes best multimedia publishing practices in the region. Neville Bastawalla, Head Marketing MiD DAY Multimedia & aashish Mudbidri Senior Manager Marketing MiD DAY Multimedia , received the awards on behalf of the company at the Gala Dinner and Awards Night of the Asian Publishing Convention at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manila Philippines on July 17, 2009.

MiD DAY’s Bollywood Lunch Contest and MiD DAY Happy Hours @ Work won an Excellence Award in the Multimedia Communication category, and MiD DAY Happy Hours @ Work and MiD DAY Corporate Cricket League are also an Excellence Awardees in the Multimedia Advertising Delivery category.

MiD DAY’s Bollywood Lunch Contest is a unique property that brings leading Bollywood stars to the office of the contest winner to share a lunch date with the winner and his entire office, while MiD DAY’s Happy Hours @ Work allows the winner to win a party for his office ensuring everyone has a rocking time. MiD DAY’s newest innovation MiD DAY Corporate Cricket League draws on India’s passion for cricket and encourages a fun and friendly competition among companies who create their own teams and then have a playoff.

Says Jho Argel, Spokesperson, Asian Multimedia Publishing Awards, “With 74 entries from 44 companies vying for the Awards, the judges had a very difficult time evaluating the excellent entries. Being selected as an excellence awardee (runner up) is recognition that your entry was among the best in Multimedia Communication and in Multimedia Advertising Delivery in the region.”

INMA AWARDS 2009 at Miami in USA :

Ninety marketing campaigns from newspapers in 43 countries had been selected as finalists in the INMA Awards 2009 held at Miami, USA. Indian newspapers received 7 nominations, this year of which 3 went to MiD DAY, making it the newspaper with the highest award nominations from the country.

From the finalists, 28 first-place award recipients across three circulation groups in 10 categories were publicly announced on Friday evening May 15, 2009, at the INMA in Miami, Florida. The awards announcements took place during the gala dinner and all finalists in the 74-year-old competition were also displayed during the INMA in Miami.

At the awards presentation, first-place recipients were announced for the first time, and also the awards were presented at that time. Second and third place recipients were also presented with a certificate. Finalists in the print categories will be featured in the 2009 edition of Best In Marketing, a digital publication chronicling the honourees of the INMA Awards competition.

Judging for the 2009 competition featured 24 top executives from media companies, product manufacturers, and consulting firms worldwide. Judges came from countries such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, India, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Thailand, and the United States.

INMA AWARDS 2008 at california :

MiD DAY’s very successful initiative “Media Nights at Hard Rock Café”,won an award under Category : Print Advertising Sales and Retention, at the INMA Awards 2008. It  was a promotion that encourages media networking, socializing and fraternizing. Every Wednesday, media folk were invited to get discounted drinks and starters at the popular club and enjoy an evening out. The Media Nights were inspired by MiD DAY’s mission of Making Work Fun for their YUMPI audience (Young Urban Mobile Professionals of India).

Another very successful initiative from MiD DAY’s marketing team has been the initiation of Impact Covers that do just that – make an impact, and invited the reader to truly engage with the content of the advertisers message. One of the most memorable ones are that of a Ford Endeavour zooming through the back page of the paper, seeming to tear through the centrefold, and crash out of the front page. Another particularly inspiring one was the impact cover that announced the music launch of the music Saawariya. The cover, an initiative in partnership with Sony Pictures, was printed on a special gateway paper taking the level of impact and impression to an entirely new aesthetic level. These Impact Covers won awards under Category : New Marketing Services

The final win for MiD DAY was for a Public Relations and Community Service, for the campaign “Smoking Causes Blindness” that created awareness for a cause that is of great concern to MiD DAY’s audience of urban professionals.

The competition saw entries from news publishers in 27 countries and a jury comprising international newspaper and media experts evaluated the entries. Neville Bastawalla, Head, Marketing & Sarita Tanwar, Deputy Editor at MiD DAY Infomedia Ltd. received the award at the IFRA Expo, 2008, at Amsterdam on behalf of the newspaper. MiD DAY was also the only Asian newspaper to be selected for an award.

Recognizing that society has changed dramatically, and different media consumption habits require innovative ways and new channels to approach consumers, the IFRA XMA Cross Media Awards 2008 aimed to present the best examples of combining different print and digital channels that bring the advertisers’ messages across in a focussed and structured way

MiD DAY’s Bollywood Lunch Contest is an innovative Marketing Property started by the publication nearly a year ago in its efforts to engage the YUMPI (Young Urban Mobile Professional of India) within the context of his working environment. Recognizing the unique space that MiD DAY occupies as an afternooner, arriving at a time, the professional is looking to take a break from his otherwise stressful day, MiD DAY made it its mission to Make Work Fun! for this audience, encouraging them to Take a MiD DAY break.

The Bollywood Lunch Contest, translated this position into an exciting ground event where readers participate in a simple contest through which not only the winner but his entire office could win a lunch date with the stars, right in his office. Heavily promoted through ads in print, radio,mid-day.com and trade publications, and through media publicity at the event, the contest created tremendous buzz in city offices, cementing MiD DAY’s position among this target audience, building recall and loyalty. This activity which has included production houses such as Popcorn Entertainment and Sahara Filmy as sponsors has seen  stars such as Aamir Khan, Rakhi Sawant, Chak De Girls, John Abraham, Boman Irani, Ajay Devgan, Ayesha Takia, Rajpal Yadav, Irfaan Khan, Emraan Hashmi, Sonal Chauhan and many others visiting corporate offices from Cadbury’s and Pantaloons to Madison, Mindshare and more.
